Our Story:
GreenDirt started as five high school students with a vision to make an impact on the world. After joining Conant High School's Business Incubator class in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, we decided to take on the problem of food waste. After working tirelessly with our local business mentor David Wolff, owner of Wolff's Flea Market and teacher Tony Miller, we won our school pitch. Then we advanced to and won our district finals, receiving startup capital. After that we were selected for the IncubatorEDU national pitch, and out of a pool 500+ teams, we were named the #1 team in the nation, receiving more funding with a real chance to make an impact on the world.
Our Mission:
In a world where 40% of food is wasted and sent straight to landfills emitting dangerous methane gasses, 21 times more harmful than carbon dioxide, we collect food scraps from local restaurants and grocery stores. Not only do we save them waste collection fees but We convert this otherwise wasted material to the highest quality garden product on the market. GreenDirt Vermicompost allows nurseries, garden centers, and home gardeners to use a premium organic product and significantly impact our environment all for a non premium price!

Akash Moozhayil

Akash Moozhayil is a full-time college student and entrepreneur. He joined the Business Incubator program at Conant High School in his senior year. Growing up, he lived in India, South Korea, and Chicago. His global experience helped broaden his perspective and hone his skills in merging diversified backgrounds and strengths to create a well-functioning team. With a lifelong drive to make an impact in the world, he was finally able to fulfill this desire by creating GreenDirt, making a real difference on the problem of food waste. Akash is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech and will graduate by 2020

Kunal Mahajan

Kunal Mahajan is a full-time college student and entrepreneur. Kunal was a founding member of the team as part of the District 211 business incubator program at Conant High School. With him, he brought his extensive experience working in team competitions and leadership. Kunal strives to use his hard work ethic along with problem solving abilities to propel and optimize the operation of GreenDirt. Kunal sees our planet Earth as an invaluable home that we all must work together to protect. Kunal is currently an undergraduate student at the University of Chicago pursuing a degree in economics and biology.

Patryk Barszczuk

Patryk Barszczuk is a full-time student, athlete, and employee. Many people state that he is a hard working and passionate person with whatever he does. Patryk has moved a lot during his childhood which helped him develop traits perfectly suited for owning a business: change. Patryk moved to Conant High School his junior year in which he joined the incubator program. In this program, he met his new found brothers of this business. He despised moving as a kid but he came to the realization that “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” in other words, take risks, go outside of your comfort zone and try to be successful in everything you do. 

Stoil

Stoil Ionov is a full-time student and Chief Operations Officer. Stoil believes there is always a better or different way to do something, he focuses his efforts greatly towards making sure that production is running smoothly and efficiently. With GreenDirt being a “green” company, Stoil looks for ways to make everything about GreenDirt’s process as eco-friendly as possible to ensure a better future.

Rohan Antony

Rohan Antony is a full-time college student who works with GreenDirt’s customer base and business partners to create value in the name of the company. Rohan believes he can create a strong green movement in the local area to help people realize their ecological footprint. Rohan is studying business management at DePaul University with a minor in marketing. He hopes to incorporate what he learns through his education with what he does daily for GreenDirt.

Amaan Abbas

Amaan Abbas is a full-time student and entrepreneur. He joined GreenDirt in August of 2017 as an Intern . He is described as a hard-working, organized and detail-oriented high school senior. This is his third year in the entrepreneurship program at Conant High School. He has led a startup business as well as mentored numerous startups. He has various business experiences which he intends to use in order to accelerate GreenDirt to its full potential.
