The Benefits

Why Worm Castings over Regular Compost?
Worm castings does everything compost does but better.

1. Earthworm castings have over 60 micronutrients and trace minerals, including calcium, magnesium, nitrogen, phosphates and potash.
2. Castings protect plants that are growing in soil where pH levels are too high or too low. Extreme pH levels make it impossible for plants to absorb nutrients from the soil.
3. The humus in the castings extracts toxins and harmful fungi and bacteria from the soil. Castings therefore have the ability to fight off plant diseases.
4. Vermicompost is a colloid and holds up to nine times its own weight in water. This can make a huge difference when there is a dry spell. The water is held at an organic level so tends to evaporate slowly while still being available to the plants.
5. Castings are also an effective way to repel white flies, aphids, spider mites and any other pests that feed on plant juices. According to recent studies, applying earthworm castings to the soil around your plants increases the production of a certain enzyme that is offensive to these insects.
